Over the years I have written several articles about music in Canada. Specifically, articles about military, paramilitary, youth bands, and individual musicians.
Many of these articles are presented in their entirety in the Canadian Encyclopedia of Music.
Background
In 1972 I was invited by the curator, Herbert Kalman, of the music department of the National Library of Canada to write several scheduled articles in regard to military music in Canada. The project lasted for three years, and all of the articles were included in the original version of the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada.
I conducted the research in a variety of locations throughout Canada. At the time there various books that existed on the subject matter. The Encyclopedia was published in 1978, and contained numerous articles. Unfortunately, the book itself—like many of the original reference materials I used—is long out of print. However, some of my research is available online through the Historica Canada project.
This research then became the inspiration for my book titled: The Heritage of Canadian Military Music (2002).
